About Us
Meet the Hatter
Wyoming Territory Custom Hats was built on a simple idea: a good hat should be made to fit the person wearing it, not pulled off a shelf.
Dave McGullion didn’t come to hat making by accident. Growing up on a steady diet of Westerns, time spent around horses, and years working in a western store, he developed a deep appreciation for the role a hat plays in the life of a cowboy. What started as an interest became a calling when he and his wife decided to begin building hats of their own in Wyoming, where the culture and landscape still reflect the traditions that first inspired him.
Like many true craftsmen,
Dave learned the trade from the ground up. From teaching himself how to sew to investing in the right tools, every step of the process was earned. Today, each hat that leaves his shop reflects that commitment to doing things the right way. Sweatbands are hand-stitched, details are finished with intention, and every hat carries a look and feel that can’t be replicated by mass production.
What sets Wyoming Territory Custom Hats apart
is the focus on fit and individuality. Dave uses a conformator system to capture not just the size of a customer’s head, but its exact shape, allowing him to build a hat that fits the way a custom hat should. It’s a process that mirrors an in-person fitting, even for customers ordering from across the country.
Every hat is built one at a time,
shaped by hand, and guided by the preferences of the person who will wear it. Whether it’s a working cowboy who knows exactly what he wants or someone looking to recreate a style from the past, Dave approaches each build with the same level of care and attention to detail.
At its core,
Wyoming Territory Custom Hats is about more than just making hats. It’s about carrying forward a tradition rooted in the American West, where quality, honesty, and craftsmanship still matter.
This isn’t mass production. It’s hat making the way it was meant to be. 🤠
A Letter from Wyoming Territory
Out here in Wyoming, the West isn’t something we look back on, it’s something we live every day.
When I started Wyoming Territory Custom Hats, my goal was simple: to build hats that carry that spirit forward. Our saying, “Where the West lives on,” isn’t just a line we use, it’s the way I approach every hat that comes across my bench.
I believe a good hat ought to be more than something you wear. It should feel right, look right, and fit the person it was made for. That’s why I take the time to get the shape and size of your head just right. No two people are the same, and your hat shouldn’t be either.
From there, we’ll work through the details together, the style, the color, the quality, all the small things that make a hat truly yours. I’ve always found the best way to do that is simply by talking it through. A good conversation goes a long way in making sure nothing gets missed and everything turns out the way you had it in mind.
My hope is that by the time your hat is finished, you don’t just have something that fits well and looks the part, but something that carries your personality and does the talking before you do. Something you’ll be proud to wear for years to come.
More than anything, I hope the experience gives you a small taste of the place we call home and the way of life that inspires every hat we build here.
If you’ve got questions, or you’re ready to get started, I’d be glad to visit with you.
— Dave McGullion
